House Republicans: No Bailout Until After Election Day
A growing number of Republicans who rejected the president's $700 billion bank bailout have a morning-after message for the White House: Go away until after Election Day. That's right, some of those who junked the plan to rescue bankers who went to the edge and further to dole out loans say there's nothing that will make them switch their vote just a month before the election. "The guys who voted 'no' are happy today," a key source tells me. "They are happy they fulfilled their voters' desire against a federal bailout." And those who had a green light before their names in the House chamber? "They are continuing to get pounded."
So what is the nay-voters' suggestion to the GOP leadership, already under attack by conservative members for forcing the vote? Put it off. "A few are now thinking that no legislation may pass prior to the election," says my insider. "Let the markets fumble along. We cannot see at this moment any movement by voters that they would tell their members who voted 'no' to change their vote to 'yes.' "

ursula of ny. where has your head been buried? Look up the fannie/freddie, lehman brothers, goldman/sachs. READ who the top earners were. They were all democrats. If you READ and not look for blame, you will also see that ACORN, Barack's baby is a HUGE reason we are in the situation we are in. Read about ACORN and tell me how you would feel if you were THREATENED IN YOUR DRIVEWAY OF YOUR OWN HOME by some moron telling you to approve these loans or you will never be able to merge (if necessary). They were a group of COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS who were TAUGHT BY BARRY OBAMA HOW TO INTIMIDATE PEOPLE. ALL OF OUR POLITICIANS ARE DIRTY> Want a change, VOTE ALL OF THEM OUT! but please do not blame Bush and all republicans for the dirty acts of all. oh, you're from new york........explains a lot!
bail out
now that the senate has voted yes, it will be interesting to see what happens either today or tomorrow in the house. Some of the nonsense written into the new bill is embarassing. How do we as Americans justify our dumbing-down? The whole point of the bail out was to protect the working man and womans retirement accounts, bank accounts, protect the small business person. Instead of writing out spending, we added more with the wooden arrows, rum and other nonsense. Hopefully a really wowing independent or other throws his or her hat into the election pool. The gene pool in dem and republic is shallow!
re: No to Socialism!
The Democrats are not the ones who created this mess. It's the Republicans, namely the neo-cons Bush, Cheney et al, who blocked all oversight and regulation of banking and investment transactions. After eight years in office, most of which time the Republicans had a majority and were able to pass or block legislation at will, it hardly seems fair, nor does it make sense to blame Democrats. This is Reagan "trickle down economics" in action. If ou think the bailout stinks, just wait to see how much worse things will become without it. Think 1929, think depression. Too young to remember it? Look it up.We're not saving Wall Streeet with this bailout, we'll be saving middle America while it still has a pulse.
