Katrina Aid Recipients Could Be Out in the Cold in February
It's been over three years since Hurricane Katrina hit, and still there are some 28,000 people receiving free rent and assistance from a guilty-feeling federal government. But not for long. Housing Secretary Steve Preston, asked how long the feds are planning to pay, says: "That's a great question, and that's an important point of conversation right now." At issue is the rental assistance aid that ends in February. Recipients are being advised on what federal programs they can apply to for further help. In the end, only 4,000 are expected to get aid.

FROM NEW ORLEANS TO TEXAS
YES, IT IS TIME FOR MOST KATRINA EVACUEES TO STAND UP AND TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES. HOWEVER, THERE IS NO WAY THAT HURRICANE IKE CAN BE COMPARED TO HURRICANE KATRINA. EVERYONE JUST NEED TO STOP PASSING JUDGEMENT ON OTHERS AND MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS. I MYSELF WAS A VICTIM OF BOTH KATRINA AND IKE, AND MY FAMILY AND I WERE AFRAID ALL OVER AGAIN. THERE ISN'T ENOUGH MONEY IN THE WORLD TO PAY ME FOR THE LIFE THAT WAS RUINED BY KATRINA. I'M NOT GETTING FEDERAL ASSISTANCE, BUT IF I WERE IT STILL WOULDN'T CHANGE THE PAIN MY KIDS AND I HAVE ENDURED. ITS SUCH A SHAME THAT TEXANS TREAT US THE WAY THEY DO BEHIND MONEY. ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION, HOW MUCH IS YOUR FAMILY WORTH, HOW MUCH ARE YOUR POSSEIONS WORTH, AND COULD YOU HAVE MADE IT THROUGH THE STORM? HOW WOULD YOU WANT US TO TREAT YALL IF YOU HAD TO COME TO OUR CITY?
Katrina beggers
I too lost my house due to IKE. Texans are working to hard make our lives better and rebuild without much ( me none) Federal aid. Three years of whinning from these Katrina people is enough. Texas people, in many instances, cannot find rental housing in Houston because the Katrina slackers are still sucking off the system and won't leave. Get up , get out and leave my Texas alone.
Opinion without asking
Myself was a victim to this and I read about people saying that its time for people in New Orleans to stop putting our hands out. First I know some of you couldn't walk a block in our shoes but the first person what a comment with facts. The fact is overly price rental housing, NOJOBS, or help of what is called our government. Three years have passed and still all abandon houses, crime rates and corruption is a main factor. For some people who feel that we had enough so called assistance how about coming to visit and see if you feel the same. Not asking for a hand out just what is rightfully due to us as citizens of this country.
