Washington Whispers by Paul Bedard

In Denver, Not Everybody's a Democrat or "Obamacan"

August 27, 2008 09:10 PM ET | Paul Bedard | Permanent Link | Print

DENVER–Oh, this Democratic Convention can be exhausting for the press and politicos, what with politics all day, parties all night, and schmoozing round the clock. And don't local Republicans know it -about the exhausting part, anyway. Just ask Hanna Warren, 76, a retired Denver lawyer. A Republican, Warren is hosting a Democratic friend from Idaho for the week and has been playing tour guide, Warren told our Liz Halloran at an Emily's List event that featured Hillary Clinton. "It's really exhausting pretending to be a Democrat," she said. For her part, Warren hasn't yet made up her mind who she'll vote for in November. "I know John McCain's positions pretty well, but not Obama's," she said. "I know I can go on his website, but I want to hear him say it." She knows it's old school, but that's how the attorney rolls. And it will take some more information from the man himself before this Republican becomes one of those "Obamacans" the Obama campaign has been touting.

Again The Better of 2 Evils

Neither are good candidates, if Obama would have picked Clinton as VP at least we would have had someone with knowledge, but now we have nothing, McCain is too old and we would have a president with no experience and she will be a puppet to the powers that be. Thanks for the opportunity to air my thoughts. I can support neither, and I am a strong Democrate, but vote for the best qualified.

Fair and Balanced

Fox News! The whole gene pool is Republican! "Fair and Balanced"? Bashing, critizing, spinning, lieing, twisting the truth about the Democrates. I will admit that it is entertaining to see all of the newsmen and woman turn around any and all postive event for the Dems. I find myself eager to turn the chammel to Fox to see how you will twist the truth to favor Repubicans! I might add it was humorous to see all of you news people stuttering and fumbling around lastnight! History was made in electing the first black president candidate!!!!!!! And the Democrats did it! I might add Obama will be the next President. I am so proud of America and I love my country, but I hate what the Republicans have done for the last eight years. In case you are wondering I am white and I see no color when I hear and see Obama. I only see the changes he can make to pull us from beneath the fear mongrels and renew the strength and spirit of all Americans with unity. The great uniter Bush/Chenney has all, but destoried our country, and McCain would finish the job. If that view is being liberal, far left, radical and etc, I will claim it and be proud of it! So all you 'sidekicks' of Bush can laugh at yourselves when our next Great leaders will be the "Fair and Balanced" Obama/Biden. God Bless America!

understanding obama's position

Since I have not been issued an invitation to MENSA, I must except that I am rather average. Having said this, I have to say that I am bewidered at how many people state that they don't understand Obama and where he stands on issues. If I were a gifted mental giant, perhaps I could be more eloquent and use a fifty dollar sentence to explain his position. Instead, I will have to say, "Duuuuhhh...where have you people been?" I think that his message and methods or achieving his goals are crystal clear. Perhaps, it is becase I read, research, watch as much tv news as I can stomach, and chat it up with people whom I respect. It seems to be working for me.

Thanks for the space to air my uncomplicated candidate-o-mometer.
