Undecided Voters Getting Tired Of Obama Change Message

August 25, 2008 06:17 PM ET | Paul Bedard | Permanent Link | Print

After spending two hours Sunday with undecided Denver area voters who participated in a focus group hosted by AARP's Divided We Fail campaign, one thing is clear: Voters want more from Sen. Barack Obama than talk of change.

Now they want to hear what Obama wants to do and how he will pay for it. The focus group, conducted by long-time pollster and wordsmith Frank Luntz, found a shift among voters who have yet to pick between Obama and Sen. John McCain. As he polled them, most said that they now put the issue of accountability over change. Luntz's recommendation to both Obama and McCain: Stop asking questions and start answering them.

"They aren't going to be spun by simple platitudes," says Luntz, seen in the picture wearing a red tie. Candidates need to "ask a rhetorical question and answer it."

Luntz showed the group ads from both campaigns, and in the end the undecideds appeared to like the McCain approach more, even including his retort to Obama's slam on the Republican's inability to remember how many homes he owns.

In the end, Luntz says that most undecideds will likely make up their mind during the presidential debates when the candidates finally go up against each other to lay out their presidential plans. "The reality," says Luntz, "is that they've got some kind of hang-up with both of them."

Scream it from the rooftops

I've never bought into the whole Obama thing anyway, but now that I've gone from "not being for him" to being "vehemently against him" I wanna scream the truth from the rooftops...because the American people are not getting it from the media (which is the only way that a large majority of them get any kind of information). I'm tired of people using the catch phrases of the media to tell me why they're going ot vote for Obama...READ PEOPLE! Find out for yourselves why this guy is NO GOOD for our country! His shady background alone should say enough to that effect!

I'm not tired of him...I'm downright bone weary exhausted of him. And I have at least four years of him to go. ug.

How can anyone possibly assign blame to the Bush Administration when corporate greed has penetrated and infected the banking industry with these crises?

I would never profess to be an expert in the Banking Ind. or Wall Street, but one would have to conclude that greed is at the heart of the banking issue. Banks have continued to over extend themselves and customers by financing homes to individuals that didn’t actually qualify. People have been losing their jobs as companies continue to outsource their business, thanks to NAFTA, which was stimulated by Bill Clinton and his administration and later found to be as suspected, One World Trade Organization, making the crises inevitable.

We believe his continuances are taking America to a One World Government or better known as socialism. The Constitution clearly warns us of such devices, not withstanding the Fairness Doctrine. “…But when a long train of abuses and usurpations pursuing invariable the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty to throw off such government and provide new guards for their future security.”

GWB cannot be held accountable for every single investment or business decisions; however, McCain has insisted, for a good while, that we put new regulations in place with banks and Wall Street to protect homeowners, private business and investors and many are now seeing his value by his constant reasoning.

Balloon payments is never a solution for purchasing a car much less a home. But because of greed, ten’s of thousands of homeowners are finding themselves in foreclosure, leaving the banks rightfully high and dry and broke and unfortunately at the expense of Americans. Earlier today on GMA, Pete Peterson former head of the Fed--discussed the economic crises. It was clear McCain had the understanding necessary to control the banking industry and investment firms. Obama has declined to weigh in on the matter, but continues to assign blame toward McCain. Where’s his promised leadership now?
