these things aren't either black or white.

It's not like he had a choice as to who would provide security. If it would have been troops, he would have been criticized for taking troops away from fighting terror. I'm all for being demanding of the candidate on issues, etc. but people are starting to sound a little silly. Blackwater isn't the issue... It's our govt's shoddy contracts with these providers.

If they were the detail that was in place, you can't expect him to fly his own security company over. Of course he'd use them. But that does not detract for their many sins in Iraq and Afghanistan. I HIGHLY doubt that he said they were getting a "bum rap". That just sounds too right-wing for me. How sad that right-wingers always try to win by lies and pure falsifications.

Been there, done that Leebo. There are plenty of US and NATO troops trotting around Afghanistan to choose from. I'm sure German, French or heck maybe even US troops could have guarded Obama. Blackwater does have a couple advantages like being inspecific in region unlike most NATO forces assigned to given locales.

To LJ, are you sure you took the right pills on the 27th? I've read the book. So what. I've seen the guy talk too. So what. I think the person listening to voices is maybe you? (maybe?) Anyway, THE Supreme Court just ruled that the original Bill of Rights invokes the rights bestowed by "their Creator" and one of those is to "keep and bear" arms. Blackater is great and heck of a resource, but given a complete populous and the armed services saying "No" Bush and Cheney would be gone. Besides, I think they're through anyway. What more could they do?
