Successful First Lady

So much of this depends on the time that they served and the fact they were a success in their own right. The best list: Dolley Madison, Sarah Polk, Edith Roosevelt, Grace Coolidge, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Kennedy, Lady Bird Johnson, Barbara Bush. Michelle Obama is too new but off to an excellent start. Three are in the Hall of Fame; Dolley, Eleanor, and Jackie.

Do not say that a man can run a country and be single.

First of all a bachelor president would not have the sense to run a country. The first lady is a woman who the president can lean on for support, you take that away and you have a weak leader. Look at Clinton he couldn't even cheat on his wife without the entire country finding out. Do really think that we need a man that can have women coming in and out of the white house? Last but not least, you want a loser for a president because any man that is over 35 and not married has some sort of social or emotional problem. He may even have a commitment problem and that will not be good for the U.S.

Best First Lady

No, Hillary has never been great at anything! For her to be in the same catagory ar Jackie Kennedy or even Eleanor Roosevelt makes me ill. The whole Clinton fascist, communist clan need to back out of politics and go back to Arkansas and keep their pie holes shut.

First Ladies

Jackie was an activist also in many ways she began the Historical Association in the White House. Was the Fisr President Wife to have an active Press Secretary and she actively served an an independent ambassador for the United States. In three year she accomplished quite a bit. We need a First Lady who will be like Jackie but also like Eleanor

Jackie No. 1

Jackie Kennedy No. 1., without question. When Abraham Lincoln talked about, “Government of the people, by the people, and for the people,” he did not mean for it to perish from the earth. He knew the Union armies would fight for these freedoms. Ironically, Confederate forces believed they fought for the selfsame freedoms. The Revolutionary War had been fought to abolish the right of kings on American soil. Without the king however, George Washington would have been speaking an Algonquin dialect before his 21st birthday. As a two-term president, George Washington set the precedent. After Franklin Delano Roosevelt served three terms, the 22-Amendment to the Constitution was ratified, thereby limiting US presidents to no more than two. FDR was also related by blood or by marriage to eleven other US presidents, including George Washington. Although political dynasties are few in America, the Clintons represent an end-run around the 22-Amendment. “I'm a little disturbed that this keeps playing out,” says former Clinton chief of staff Leon Panetta. I can only imagine. So, if you're just plain sick and tired of the Clintons, it's not without good reason: http://theseedsof9-11.com

First Lady

Just because Hillary is despised for no good reason is the only

reason that she is way behind in First Lady popularity polls.

She showed the world that what a first female woman American can do to come so close to winning the nomination. She was neck and neck with Obama. Her accomplishment alone should be sufficient to put her at the very top of the list of those First Ladies who actually fought for a nomination to become the first female candidate for the Presidency. So what if she lost ?

Americans should admire her for her skills and her intelligence.

PUMA

Well, it depends on what one thinks is a good first lady. I prefer Hillary to Jackie-O. Jackie was great, but she was more known for poise and fashion. Hillary represents the best first lady/ Senator/ presidential candidate because while she was First Lady she travelled to over 80 countries, and spoke with foreign leaders one on one--in true talks, and she wasn't just "the wife." Hillary worked hard for universal healthcare, and helped millions of children receive healthcare; and also, her amazing speech in China: Women's rights are Human rights.

I want Hillary, a true democrat. I will not vote for Obama.

NO DEAL

PUMA!

Frivolity

This is a frivolous poll at a time when mortgage loan companies are going broke, recession looms and the country is at war. Paul Bedard sounds like a gossip mongering hairdresser asking questions that he knows will portray other women, especially Hillary Clinton, as power hungry iconoclasts. Not every woman wants to sit home and redecorate her house, like Jackie Onassis, even if it's the White House. Whispers, indeed! Become relevant!

Hillary: The one and only first lady

I think to compare Jackie to Hillary is a little crazy. Like one person said, she was only first lady for 2 years and Hillary had 8 years. I also don't know much about Jackie, but I am old enough to remember Hillary and she was a very good first lady. I can't imagine people choosing Laura Bush over Hillary because until recently, I don't remember Bush traveling much outside the country and speaking to different country. As for McCain's wife, people critize her because she's rich but so what. At least she doesn't expect to have things delivered to her on a silver platter like Obama's wife does.
