Wes Clark, Obama's Hot Potato
Reader Comments
Dear S. Temper of TN
Read a book. Your "worm" comment regarding a four star (yep, four stars) General shows a lack of knowledge of his accomplishments and other things I won't mention.
Clerk's record earns him the right to say whatever he wants about McCain. As it stands - he didn't say anything that isn't precisely true. A military history that could pretty much be summed up like this:
1) graduated 5th from the bottom of 899 (yep, #894) at the Naval Academy
2) flew a plane and was shot down
3) was a prisoner of war (all of us applaud his service)
4) never went any further in the military
does NOT qualify you to be President. Where is the flaw in that logic? Now, Clark didn't stoop so low as to point out that HE (the four star general) graduated 1st in his class at West Point and went on to become Supreme Allied Commander of NATO.
Again, read...
Gen. Clark, Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain
What's the big controversy about? Just, because Gen. Clark spoke on experience! Gen. Clark said nothing wrong and Sen. McCain know that. I see a lot of instigating. Question what bus did Sen. Obama throw Gen. Clark under? Gen. Clark know's better, this is a game the GOP, News Media and some of the back stabbing Dem. and the one's that say they are not going to vote for Sen. Obama they wasn't going to vote for him in the first place. No one has the experience, even Mr.Bush is still learning. This is what Sen. Obama is saying it's going to take the new Commander in Chief and all the people of this country to help get back on our feet, we will never be One Hundred Percent, but long as we get there. There is a lot of hurt feeling, we need to put them aside and work together, together we rise divided we fall.
.
Why should Sen. Obama be the blame for something some one say. Gen. Clark is his own "Man," Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain the same. Sen. Obama have been called everything but the child of "GOD" he just let it slied of his shoulder, because he know's no matter how hard he try he want be able to "Please Everyone. We have other "Pressing Issues.
patriotism
I have never fought in combat. But I know in my heart that I would fight and die to protect my family, if threatened. I would only fight and die for my country if we are attacked and would have to go to war for self defense.War is too important to be left to generals or politicians.I greatly respect those who would fight and die for their country. I also respect those who would go to jail rather than kill people who they see as innocent. To me, they are every bit as patriotic as sen Mccain or Gen. Clark.
Wesley Clark & the Truth
Apparently we're no longer allowed to tell the truth in a Presidential campaign! Clark did say something true about McCain, & it's old news too, having been said before. But lying, well, that's always OK, as long as (Re)Publicans do it, right? The party that loved the Sh*t Boat Veterans Against Truth still endorses that strategy, but the truth, hey, that's...oh right, Inconvenient! As for the medis, can we pleasepleaseplease have some substantive coverage? Of issues & platforms, please!
Bottom line: Clark is a Southerner with extensive, and successful, military & foreign policy credentials. A fine running mate for Obama, so Publicans must demonize him. This time the voters are on to Publican tactics, & won't buy them. This is a Change election; Obama's the change candidate; he will be judged by a different standard, & that's how it should be.
It Doesn't Matter ...
It really doesn't matter if Barack or John McCain have or not have military experience. The country is more than about the military and its use.
Mr. Clark says that Obamy should be president because, even though he has no executive experience, no military experience, he HAS judgment. What a crock of crap [and this from a supposed educated man]!
Mr. Clark knows that no man (who becomes president) has all the answers himself to make judgments. This is why the president has a cabinet: a team of expert advisers who advise him so that he can make decision based on more than his own judgment. So all this talk about Obamy having "judgment" is a smoke screen. Both he or John McCain will need to have people who know things they don't know well to advise them. It's called teamwork. Every successful person knows this and looks for this.
So Mr. Clark, cross your fingers and hope Obamy will pick you for VP. That's what you're vying for anyway. You won't get it (thank God), but you sure are lusting for it.
Stay retired, and melt away into forgotten history.

clark on McCain
I think for one soldier to critisize another soldier is breaking the carnal rule of being in the brotherhood of the military. Clark was never captured nor tortured for FIVE long years. Would he have been able to stand up to the rigoris tourture McCain did? We will never know, yes Clark was shot and injured but McCAin also was injured to legs, soulders, arms etc.
I am not for John McCain, but I do believe that his war record can not be called into question, we have other pressing matters for either candidate to address than BS that happened before a lot of voters were born, It will not matter to them about war records.
Obama should distance himself from people who sling garbage like this, did he not get enough of it from Hillary Clinton to realize people GET tired of this kind of politics. I still think Mr.Obama should try to convince Colin Powell to be his VP or one of the 3 women governors.
Senator Obama run your campain clean ,like you did against Hillary, the people are waiting for you, stick to your guns and you will be elected because you were honest and that is what this countr y needs now. GOOD LUCK THE REST OF THE WAY and GOD BLESS
Wes Clark for VP
McCain brought it upon himself. He is running TV adds extolling his virtues of being a POW implying that his POW status somehow makes him uniquely qualified to be President. What it does show is that he is brave and a patriot, admirable qualities in a leader but not the only qualities required. Sound judgment is an important quality also, which McCain lacks by supporting Bush's little War.
Wes Clark, Vice President?
"They obviously had better judgement than the man who fought in an unnecessary war 40 years ago." I agree that VietNam was an unnecessary war. However, you need to do some research before you make such an inane comment. Which war do you think Wesley Clark fought in?
As to Wesley Clark being Barack Obama's running mate--this would be a Republican dream. Clark is so abrasive and so careless in his statements. His mouth is regularly in gear before his brain. He would continuously be putting his foot in his mouth. The Republicans would have a field day.
McCain's Service in the Army Does not Matter
I totally agree with Gen Clark that being a jet pilot does not qualify McCain for the presidency. If heroic military service were the prerequisite for the presidency, McCain would not be running for president now because there are so many great Americans with much more superior military service record than McCain's. This man needs to tell us about his leadership visions. Period. We have a great deal of more qualified generals to run the army operations; all we need is the right leadership at the top. We do not need the kind of Bush-Cheney leadership.
Obama on Clark
General Clark's observation about Senator McCain's being shot down and imprisoned not qualifying him to be commander in chief was, if viewed logically, absolutely correct, a no-brainer. However, it saddled Senator Obama with a classic damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. The words were hardly out of Clark's mouth before McCain's people were blaming Obama for putting his "surrogate" up to it. Add to that the clamor about Obama's "lack of patriotism," and the need for him to repudiate the statement was obvious. On the other hand, to do so would be seen by many as throwing Clark under the bus. It was a no-win decision he had to make, and probably fueled by the memory of his too-late repudiation of Reverend Wright, he made it. Some of us can live with that; the others can get over it.
