Washington Whispers by Paul Bedard

What Would Jesus Do in 2008?

The hottest movie in political activist communities has an unusual star: God. And its message is even stranger: A candidate's religion shouldn't be a hurdle to the White House. "The timing is perfect," says Ralph Reed of Article VI, the movie he helped produce. It's hooked to the article in the Constitution that provides that no religious test shall be required to serve in office. The movie is playing to sold-out crowds and house parties, says Reed, former Christian Coalition director. The goal is a simple one: to live by Article VI's code. "We should welcome the voice of faith in the conversation of democracy," he says, "but we should never exclude somebody from serving because they are in a different faith tradition than we are."
