FDA Warns of Death by Chocolate

The folks at Atlanta's Bella Cucina foods probably thought that when they named their decadent cookies "Death by Chocolate," it would have people purring, "These are killer good." But now the Food and Drug Administration has announced a recall of the cookies, with a warning to those allergic to walnuts that the cookies might just be a killer. This happened last week; we are just catching up to our E-mail in box. What's the problem? Seems there are walnut parts in the cookies, which sell for $19 for a 3/4-pound box, but they aren't mentioned on the ingredients list. Here's what the FDA posted:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Atlanta, GA — August 27, 2007 — Bella Cucina of Atlanta, Georgia is recalling units of Death by Chocolate cookies if your bag does not correctly state that the product contains walnuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to Walnuts run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Even Canada has followed suit, though no illnesses have been found.
