We Should Be Experts on Queen Visits

May 04, 2007 02:46 PM ET | Permanent Link | Print

Queen Elizabeth's visit to the United States and site of the first Virginia colony is getting breathless media attention. But you'd think we'd be used to her visits by now. The White House Historical Association reminded me that she's been here five times before: 1939, 1951, 1957, 1976, and 1991. The best detail in the association's backgrounder: On her first visit, Elizabeth visited FDR's Hyde Park, N.Y., home, where she was served hot dogs. See the backgrounder here.
