Washington Whispers by Paul Bedard

Scooter's Everywhere

Now that the president has made sure he won't go to jail, CIA spy case figure Lewis "Scooter" Libby is popping up everywhere — serious and not.

Just last weekend, our spook spotted him playing second base in a pickup softball game at what's called Turtle Park near American University. More seriously, our Emma Schwartz found him installed at the Hudson Institute, which offered him a soft landing after his November 2005 indictment. During a recent talk by former Justice Department official Viet Dinh, one of the architects of the Patriot Act, Libby joined a crowd of mostly young faces listening to a discussion on "Terrorism and Modern Communications Technology."

Libby sat toward the back, perched behind a column, characteristically scribbling notes. Asked whether he was back at work at Hudson, Libby replied, "Sometimes. "

Was he enjoying it? we asked. To that, he just smiled.
