The Republican "Birther" Fringe Gets Scary in Delaware
By Robert Schlesinger, Thomas Jefferson Street Blog
If you haven't seen it, I commend this video to you. It's from a town hall meeting led by Rep. Mike Castle, Delaware's moderate Republican House member. He calls on one audience member who stands, starts waving her birth certificate and ranting about President Obama being a citizen of Kenya, and saying, "I want my country back!" The rant and anger fueling it are scary enough. But what's more disturbing is the vehemence with which the crowd cheers her on and then boos Castle when he points out that the president is, in fact, a citizen of the United States. This is very blue state Delaware we're talking about here--not what you would think of as a hotbed of fringe wingnuttery. But as the Washington Independent's Dave Weigel points out, the "birther" movement (people who think that Obama is not a U.S. citizen) is gaining traction on the right. (H/t to Politico's Ben Smith.)

Where did this woman buy her birth certificate?
As I watched the video of the woman screaming about President Obama's birth certificate I wondered how she would handle it if people asked her where she purchased the certificate she was waving and claiming was her own. I'm sure she'd be shocked that anyone would question the validity of her document while at the same time she refuses to accept the validity of President Obama's birth certificate. This birther lunacy has nothing to do with the natural born citizenship of President Obama and everything to do with racism. These folks are too gutless to say what they really mean. The folks in congress who are building on this racism for political gain by promoting a bill requiring proof of citizenship for presidential office just to keep open sore bleeding should be ashamed of themselves.
Kenyan Commie??
Wow.
Well, here's the thing: I guess I'd rather have a president whose father was a "Kenyan Commie" than a president who was a proven drug-binging, alcohol-drinking, womanizing, mentally-challenged trust fund baby who allowed his "2nd lieutenant" to physically abuse other Human Beings because they were alleged "terrorists". Go figure.
Birthers - access to blogs but not to Internet?
I am amazed that these Birthers can blog on the net but cannot use it to see the evidence in plain sight that has been repeatedly put forth - The Birth certificate! I mean really - they were defeated on the issues and now must take up an ad hominum argument. Of course the government should not waste any more $ trying to satiate the fears of the lunatic fringe.
