Sarah Palin's Lame Duck Resignation Logic Eliminates a 2012 Run for President

Palin a Quitter?
HEY, C'MON, PALIN A QUITTER! THEY ALL DO IT! (SO TO SPEAK). COLEEN C WAS EXACTLY RIGHT, PALIN WAS QUITE CLEAR ABOUT HER REASONS FOR QUITTING GOV SHIP. SHE'S ALSO BEEN CRITICIZED FOR HER PRE-RESIGNATION SPEECH AS RAMBLING AND DISJOINTED. WELL, NOT REALLY.SHE STATED THREE THINGS--1)SHE EXPLAINED HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS GOV; 2)EXPLAINED HER POSSIBLE FUTURE PLANS AND 3)TURNED THE OFFICE OVER TO SEAN PARNELL, AND SUMMARIZED HER HOPES FOR AK AND US. OF COURSE SHE PROBABLY USED MORE WORDS THAN I WOULD HAVE UNDER THE SAME TRYING CONDITIONS. BUT A LOT OF THIS CRITICISM IS SO MUCH SLIPPING AND SLIDDING IN THE STUFF FOUND IN THE FLOOR OF THE CHICAGO STOCKYARDS, MOSTLY BY THOSE WHO VOTED FOR CHICAGO EAST. BUT THERE IS NO DOUBT PALIN IS A POLARIZING FIGURE. BUT IS THAT SO WRONG?

Palin in a leadership role for Republicans
I think that Palin has a good chance to be tapped on the shoulder to take a leadership role in her party. To that end, dropping out of the governorship early is wise. There is one key factor that so many of the leading Republicans has which she needs to add to her resume.
I figure 1 year to have the tawdry affair, a weepy public apology, 1 year out of the spotlight and she will be ready to start campaigning for the 2012 election.
Sarah Palin: Lame Duck (without the duck part)
I read the whole speech. I'm not sure I'd call it rambling, but it didn't really make a ton of sense either. By her logic, if she was elected president, then after 2.5 years she should step aside. This is nothing but spin doctoring.
Most of the feathers she claimed for her cap in Alaska are half completed at best.
The basketball analogy was a bit of a stretch too. She is a just a standard politician acting like a politician. That doesn't offend me. The annoying part is her claims that she is not just another politician.
She does great with a prepared speech and time to rehearse it. But we've seen the train wreck when she has to speak for herself.

Wake up Not cut out for it.
Pull your head out of your butt and pay attention.
Sarah set up that "benefactor" and the typical left wingers filed an ethics charge for that as well.
The fact is you couldn't take 1/1000 of what Sarah Palin put up with this past election season and the last 9 months.
I say your name is right because you are "not cut out for it"
Schlesinger and others wishful thinking
I watched Palin's resignation speech and it was not the quizzical ramblings that the Left has spun. But what should we expect?
Schlesinger's blog, the Left Media's venomous spin shows how Palin opponents wish their views will shape Palin's future.
The more vicious these attacks get, the more it reinforces Palin's star power.
The Left is justifiably upset because now Palin can use her media grabbing persona, both good and bad, to support conservative representatives in 2010, attack Administration policies and highlight conservative alternatives.
As these attacks against Palin become more vicious, media bias and unprofessionalism will become more salient. It will create an underdog imagery - The lying mass media against Palin. The same way that newspapers vociferously lied about Lincoln.
Palin / Cheney wins in 2012. Their first executive order will be to expand the Fairness Doctrine to non-cabled news media to promote balance and professionalism in the mass media.
lame
I disagree with your interpretation...she announced she was not seeking another term....THUS she would be a "lame duck" for the remainder of her term. She then announced she was leaving for this reason and others.
Whether 18 months is soon or not is also up for interpretation.
Not Cut out for it
Thor Klebs of TX is correct: she was a lightning rod of controversy. She went after people in her own party in a very personalized manner, then, couldn't take it when she tasted her own medicine.
If she couldn't afford the lawsuits, then she shouldn't have been throwing stones at glass houses. A real politician would have found a benefactor to pay for the lawsuits to defend herself, or raised money to pay for them. If she can't even do that, then how can she raise the money it takes to run for President. Be realistic.
Sarah Palin is not a Quitter
Sarah Palin is misunderstood because the media and others are not used to HONESTY in a politician. She explained very clearly why she was stepping down from her office as governor, but the majority of those who heard her talk apparently have selective hearing. They hear only what they want to hear. She is leaving office because she is unable to fulfill her vision thanks to the hysterical, panicked, and jealous left who have caused her to have to spend all her time and lots of hard earned money as well as 2 million dollars of Alaskas' money to defend herself. The last thing that Sarah Palin wants to do is waste Alaskas' money on frivolous matters that the frenzied left has forced on her. This is true to her beliefs and as difficult as it must be for her she is putting her state before her own selfish interests. She is not showing weakness but rather great and unselfish strength. Sarah Palin could put anyone of the left wing media to same with her extraordinary strength. She is a women with a handicapped child, a young daughter struggling with the difficulties of being a single mother and a son serving in Iraq. At the same time she was running a state and she has accomplished more in 2 years than most governors accomplish in 4 years. Do not worry left wing media, Sarah Palin is not quitting, she is just beginning!
She had to quit
I agree, Palin had to quit. There was nothing more good that she could have done for herself or Alaska. To save her own sanity, she had to get out of there. It would have gotten worse, and she would have accomplished nothing over the next 18 months, and solidified her reputation as a failed governor. She can set up a very good life for herself and her family in the lower 48 preaching to the choir; she has such a loyal following among certain conservatives. Who would go through all this Hell when she can be so much more successful elsewhere?
However, the very fact that she HAD to get out of there shows that she is NOT fit for higher office. A real astute politician would not have gotten herself into this situation in the first place, been such a lightning rod for controversy everywhere she went and with everything that she says and does, and be unable to get out of it and be effective. You would want this kind of person in the white house? No way! Imagine all the trouble she would get this country into. George Bush would seem tame compared to her.
But perhaps there is hope. Somehow Sarah got totally off track. The whole reason why she was selected for VP was that she was tough, and bipartisan. But now she is weak, a quitter, and so one-dimentional. I blame the campaign in the Fall for doing this to her. What a disaster. Perhaps she can re-make her image? That is her challenge over the next couple of years. Start with preaching to the choir but eventually branch out across the lines. But she still needs experience. Just remaking her image is not going to give her the presidency with small town mayor experience and a couple of years of governing a minor state and then quitting. Maybe a senate run in another state in 1 1/2 years aka Hillary Clinton in NY?
