Sarah Palin Defends Miss California Carrie Prejean--Why?

The weighty issue of Sarah Palin's position on Carrie Prejean has finally been resolved: Alaska's most famous beauty queen approves of California's. Not a surprise in and of itself, but I still wonder, why weigh in?

Through her leadership PAC, Palin released a four-paragraph statement excoriating the usual suspects:

The liberal onslaught of malicious attacks against Carrie Prejean for expressing her opinion is despicable. Carrie and I spoke soon after the attacks started; I can relate as a liberal target myself. What I find so remarkable is that these politically-motivated attacks fail to show that what Carrie and I believe is also what President Obama and Secretary Clinton believe—marriage is between a man and a woman. I applaud Donald Trump for standing with Carrie during this time. And I respect Carrie for standing strong and staying true to herself, and for not letting those who disagree with her deny her protection under the nation's First Amendment Rights. Our Constitution protects us all—not just those who agree with the far left.

(h/t GOP 12)

Set aside the hilarity potential of a Palin-Trump alliance. (Or not: One can easily imagine a 2012 flop leading, down the road, to a has-been appearance on Celebrity Apprentice—perhaps competing against Carrie Prejean.) And give her credit for seizing on the clever GOP wedge-attack that Prejean's position is no different than President Obama's (which was first written on in this space, by the way). And again ask: Why issue this statement? Did I miss the great hue and cry for Palin's take on this?

Obviously Prejean has become a darling of the conservative right. But is she polling that well? (One rough answer: Over the last month, "Palin" is being outsearched on Google by "Prejean" by a factor of 17-5.) Did Palin or her advisers see a need to latch her star onto Prejean's? That would seem a bit of a stretch. Palin is presumably still the more important figure, and Miss California will presumably be forgotten by the time the 2012 race gets started on Nov. 3, 2010. Palin, as Chris Cillizza points out, has "struggled to balance her current job with ambitions on the national stage." So why choose this issue on which to raise her national profile?

What do you think? Weigh in below, and in the meantime ponder this dream ticket: Palin-Prejean '12.

Interesting how people who are either closeted or unsecure of their own sexuality are the loudest. Jerri, I really don't want to know what you do as your extracurricular activities (e.g., cruising truckers in rest areas, masturbating in adult bookstore backrooms, etc.) but maybe you should stop being a hippocrite and man up to your desires.

Prejean and Palin's stand on gay marriage

Dear Anonymous Jane Doe, Thanks for the response. I’m sure you right that not all gays are bad, and I apologize if that was the impression I had left in the previous email. Gays like Perez Hilton were the subject I was considering at the time I wrote the email. I also apologize for the numerous errors made while attempting to address the topics in haste, and mailing before spell checking. However, let there be no doubt, if it comes between a Palin patriot type, and a gay caring for my and/or entrusting my children, I think you know I would lean heavily towards the good Governor only because I never want to have to apologize to my children for a gay exposure mistake. After all, aren’t children what the gay marriage thing should be really about?

Most gays chose their path, yet some have the nerve to want in on god’s procreation’s gift of having and raising children. Gays should not be adopting and raising children. They are not the best role models. Can you imagine a male child having to be brought up in a gay or lesbian household? The gay women don’t like men, like the one he’s to become as he grows up with endless psychological guilt and inferiority complex; and the gay men don’t like women who he should be taught to socially appreciate and respect. These are all the wrong signals for a child’s fragile mind. Do you think the male child should accept homosexuals as a norm, and that being queer is ok? No way!! But that’s where they’re taking the country if you let gay marriages be accepted as normal. I guess we have to allow Sean Penn and the rest of the Hollywood liberals to raise their kids gay, or around gays, if they wish, but I believe the majority in California voted that gays and Penn’s types are wrong and they’re not going to take it anymore. Legalizing gay marriage would signify opening the flood gates to social re-engineering and screw ups. It’s a sure road to social failure. As for little girls, they may mentally survive better than boys, by learning to hate men and promote only women, but they will end up losing out on a big part of life as well, such as having a family of their own, not to mention the potential problems of being around strange perverts all of the time while trying to grow up normal.

You must be an Obama follower also, of mere hope, without a sound plan to articulate. Sounds good, but its BS. He says he’s against gay marriage, but he’d sell his soul for a vote or a buck. His stupid socialist plan is as bad, if not worst, for the country as gay marriage. Obama’s hate for the US has been driven in to him, under his communist mentors such as Reverend Wright, and the other terrorist buddy, the unrepentant Bill Ayres. Not to mention his Chicago thugs he made part of this board, and the exposed ACORN movement he helped illegally fund to commit voter fraud. Without Opera (the women who built an empire about empowering women, yet sold out women for race when it came to supporting a capable women candidate (Hillary Clinton) verses black Obama), Obama would not have won his tight margin race against McCain. The country is beginning to catch on to reality real fast as he is further exposed in the proposed Obama Nationalized Health care plan. All those Obama guys/entities are anti-American. You can not use the words anti-American without being a hypocrite when addressing Miss America Contestant Prejean and Governor Palin since they, and their US military family members, are proven American patriots.

Perversion is everywhere

I believe that homosexuals are perverted, confused, desensitized, and living a destructive lifestyle. Gays are not the only perverts in this land.I treat them with respect as a human being, and have compassion for them. Yes satan has deceived so many.

One day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. Whether you choose to now, or not.

Go Sarah! Ive agreed with everything you've done.
