Is Obama Stimulus Plan Also the Biggest Tax Cut Ever?

No Problem With Deficits

Tax cuts cause deficits. Deficits reduce the value of the dollar against other currencies. This is a good thing because a lower dollar means that American products and labor become more attractive on the world market. Thus, the more we spend the more jobs will eventually come our way.

The problem in this recession is that the dollar has actually come out stronger than a lot of other currencies. We need to spend spend spend in order to weaken the dollar and bring more commerce our way.

ahem.

Wow this guy is dirty; and he is a deputy editor? I guess I'll never buy US news and world report. This editorial is done in such a way as to trick people, that's pretty dirty and I hope this guy gets some help. I couldn't live with myself if I was actively trying to trick uninformed people with propagana like this. Robert must be disconnected from those types of feelings unless he truely is ignorant of the facts.

O rly?

Considering the spending increases, any "tax cut" is temporary, is code for a long-term tax-increase, and therefore BS :).

Getting a "tax cut" when you dont pay taxes ain't a tax cut...its welfare.

Giving people a tax credit when they pay no taxes in the first place isnt a "tax cut". Its actually welfare payments paid out by the IRS, rather than through the normal channels.

The only way you can claim Obama is cutting taxes is if you use this Orwellian definition of "tax cut".

Despite their claim of being "reality based" liberials (i.e. socialists) always have to lie to gain power, hold power and move their agendas forward.

Taxed

The devil is in the details ... Who is paying the tax? And, who is getting the tax cut? Keep in mind that it isn't a tax cut, if the person getting the cut never pays the tax -most folks call that welfare. Only approximately 50% of taxpayers pay any net federal income tax - a fact too many pundits and politicos simply ignore - and as a result, the fact is that most of the taxes come from the "wealthiest" Americans. Seems to me that by definition, you can only cut taxes if you give the "wealthy" a tax cut. No one else actually pays federal income taxes. If you don't believe me, look up the facts.

One more thought ... does anyone really believe that the federal government can spend money faster than an American consumer? Seems obvious to me that if you are trying to increase the economic cycle (and spur the economy), giving the taxpayer their money back is quicker and more efficient and ensures it reaches their local economies than asking federal bureaucrats to spend it for them on who knows what, when and where.

retirement finally !!!

13 dollars a week extra? Where to put it all is the bigger question! Beverly Hills here I come!! Yahoooo !!!

Spending, tax cuts?

I somewhat agree with Muser of NM, but I also agree that in the end spending will do much better than tax cuts because it will stimulate the economy a lot faster than tax cuts. I guess you could say that through spending your stimulating the movement of money. I know its painful to pay taxes, especially when your pockets are pinched, but sometimes you can just look at yourself, you have to look at the economy as a whole.

Wrong constituency to suit Republicans

Cutting taxes for small incomes is not part of Republican orthodoxy because such cuts do not first have to trickle down from the wealthier set. In short, they don't believe in little cuts for little people; they only believe, rather, in big cuts for big people.

Disgrace

It is a disgrace, not a tax cut.
