Subject Change

Can we change the subject from "qualified" to "politically desirable."

Caroline Kennedy Qualified?

Caroline Kennedy is definitely qualified to be the junior senator from New York just as Joe the plumber is qualified to be a senator representing Ohio. You don't need a Harvard law degree to figure that out. The question should be is she most qualified to replace Senator Clinton? The answer to that is clearly no given what we have seen so far. But she will still get the position as compensation for supporting the president-elect when he badly needed a major endorsement. Who cares what is best for New Yorkers?

What's the difference? (corrected copy)

For the first time in my life I wrote Congressmen, Senators and the White House as did many other U.S. citizens regarding my concerns about the bailout and again about the billions to Detroit's "big three". Previously a NYS resident for most of my life I retired to Florida a few years ago and registered Republican. No one listened to the people who disagreed with the aforementioned ideas. It was a Democrat Senator who's office was the only one with the courtesy of a response. Many of us have been infuriated by the actions of those in power from the President to the banks' officers, from the Feds to the U.S. auto makers for the economic fiasco we find our country and ourselves now suffering. If Caroline Kennedy can write her name at the top of the paper as required, she will probably pay as much attention to the wants, need and requirements of the citizens of New York State and the rest of our country as any of the others have done in the past.

To all the out of state commenters

Do you have an alternative name for Gov. Paterson to consider? No? Then shut the f*k-up already!

I bet half of you idiots couldn't even find New York on a map of the United States.

qualified, sure

She's an attorney, an author, a wife, a mother, she has buried both of her parents, and her only brother, a resident of the state of NY for many, many years. She knows all of the important people, OF COURSE SHE IS QUALIFIED!

Just because HRC wants to spite the woman is no reason for anybody to slander her. Get a grip folks.

Caroline Kennedy

Caroline is not qualified to be appointed to the Senate. If she wants the job she should do what Hillary did and run for the office. 2010 is right around the corner. If she's got such a fabulous name that can instantly raise millions, she shouldn't have any problem running an effective, well financed campaign.

The problem with her is that she wants to come in at the top without ever having to pay any dues. Sorry, but the country is in deep trouble right now and we don't have time for socialites who want to play.

Give the job to an interim candidate and let the others duke it out in 2010. That way, the true candidate will emerge based on what the voters think, not on what the Kennedys want.

Kennedy Eye Contact

When Caroline Kennedy was recently interviewed by the New York Daily News, they noted that she "rarely made eye contact".

How's she going to be able to negotiate difficult issues with tough people if she doesn't even make eye contact. How about if/when she's on the other side of an issue with Harry Ried, an issue dearly important to New York ?

How will she be able to build consensus with other senators ?

This nonsense on Caroline Kennedy has gone on long enough.

Why no indepth discussion of other qualified candidtates ?

- Did not vote in about HALF OF ALL ELECTIONS. Matter of public record

- Claimed that although she is close to Bloomberg and publically supported his reelection, she did not vote for him. Comon.. Does anyone believe that ?

- Claims that 911 was one of the major motivations for aspiring to the senate seat. 911 happend in 2001 - OVER 7 YEARS AGO ! Why the looooong wait ? Does anyone believe that ?

She has been shrouded by her inherited millions her whole lifetime and inside a bubble

Tom

.

She's qualified?

Because she's a mother? And she completed law school (thus is a "lawyer") but never actually practiced law? She's never worked a day in her life, and never even voted half the time she was obliged to as a citizen in the past 10 years, yet she is qualified?

Sweet Caroline

The United States just elected a new president:

1. Whose father was in the country on a student visa

2. Whose mother got pregnant when she was 18

3. Whose parents broke up soon after he was born

4. Who was brought up by his grandparents of modest circumstances

5. Who worked his butt off to get into Columbia University

6. Who then worked hared to get into Harvard Law School

7. Who then worked even harder to make Law Review

8. Who then worked even harder to become President of the Harvard Law Review

9. Who then took those credentials and worked the streets as an organizer

10. Who entered politics at the state senate level

11. Who paid his political dues as a state senator

12. Who fought a tough fight for his party's nomination as US Senator

13. Who was given a chance to show off his oratory skills at the Democratic Convention in 2004

14. Who blew the crowd away with those skills

15. Who won a US senate seat

16. Who ran the toughest possible campaign for president.

17. Who beat an all-but-crowned Hillary

18. Who beat the biggest war hero in the Senate

19. Who has set the standards for clear, concise, and convincing rhetoric in public office

Should New York now be forced to accept as Senator a woman who:

1. Was born rich

2. Was kept rich after her father was killed by a mother who married richer

3. Who has inherited vast sums of money

4. Who has never done a damn thing in her life other than transport herself from her luxury apartment to her vacation home to her other vacation home

5. Who was so inspired by 9/11 that she got into politics 7 years later

6. Who may not have a clear thought or idea about any matter of public policy or practice

7. And, if she does have such idea, can't articulate it worth a dime.
