Election Questions: McCain's New Economic Plan, Pennsylvania's Status, and North Carolina
A couple of questions that befuddle me with three weeks to go in the election:
- John McCain is unveiling a new economic plan today (Barack Obama gave his latest economics speech Monday). According to television reports, the McCain plan is aimed at senior citizens. Can anyone think of an instance where an October policy proposal vaulted someone from behind to victory in a presidential race?
- Pennsylvania is frequently referred to as a tossup state. Joe Biden and Sarah Palin were each there over the weekend and McCain was there today. Yet there hasn't been a poll showing McCain with a lead there in a month; and there hasn't been a poll there this month showing Obama with less than a double-digit lead. How exactly is this a tossup state? Is the racist factor/Obama Appalachian problem really so powerful?
- North Carolina? Really? My friend Doug Heye has a pretty good rundown on this in NRO, but still—North Carolina?

Obama doesn't want to take the side of America??
This is supposed to be a quote from Mr. Obama ..
'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking
sides,' Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the Amer=
ican flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-lik=
e message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapp
ed for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Lik=
e to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute=.
???????
Is this correct?
Obama wants to be President of the USA , but doesn't want to take sides...?
He thinks, " I want to teach the World to sing " is better than the American Anthem?
.... and AMERICANS will vote for him ??
I don't understand this.
America ,,, a country that people are breaking into in order to live for the best opportunity of Liberty and justice in the world , vs. Muslim countries that are essentially despotic Theocracies.
And some of these Theocracies are dedicated to killing everybody that is not a Muslim.
But he doesn't want to take sides??
Will somebody please explain this to me.

Wake up America
Everyone knows who is running for President of the United State. They have millions & millions of dollar’s to campaign with but did either say, here use this money to help? Almost every State & U.S. Senators & U.S. Congressmen have made enough money off the people of this country to say, here use this months pay to help, have they? Only one President has ever given his pay back and I think that was JFK. Is or will President Bush going to help the people that elected him?
It is hard for me to look at the things that are going on in this country and understand why people still vote some people into our nation’s highest offices after the way they tear down everything our fathers and grand fathers have worked so hard to build. With everything going on in the world you would think they would take care of the people of this country first instead of filling the other countries pockets with our tax money and feeding everyone except our people.
In the last 20 years they have passed bills that has destroyed our industries paying outrages prices for oil from other countries that could be drilled and refined in this country put that money to good use here where it is needed instead lining others pockets, borrowing more money form countries puts us in so much debt that we will be at there beckon call begging for help because of the things some officials’ of this country that should have been run out of office years ago have done.
The unions of this country and the people in them have made this country the biggest and best industrial country in the world. Now that the elected officials have given the ok with trade agreement after trade agreement on out-sourcing every thing that is made here they can not understand why the economy is so messed up. Look - if you do not have a job you can not pay your bills! Unemployment will not stretch that far no matter how you budget your money. So it is not the housing foreclosure problem because people do not have jobs. It is a Dumb Elected person that got us here!
Things that need to be done!
1. Abolish the trade agreements’ allowing plants to move overseas for cheep labor and cheep products or make them pay a very high tariffs if that product is brought back into there home country to sell period. If they make it there sell it there!
2. BUY American Made Products!!! Ask store owners where they are in store!!
3. Everyone needs to write there U.S. Senators & U.S. Congressmen and tell them enough is enough and to either take care of the people of the United States first or resign. We will vote someone in that can (high school kids could do better then some we are paying now).
4. Write your U.S. Senators & U.S. Congressmen and ask them to vote for the Employee Free Choice Act allowing workers the option to join a union by the will of a majority of the workers and be able to have a secret ballot election without being harassed at the work place or threatened to be fired by the employer. Then write and thank the U.S. Senators & U.S. Congressmen that helps.
5. Everyone needs to write there U.S. Senators & U.S. Congressmen and tell them to stop buying oil at $120.00 a barrel and build refineries in this country and pump our oil and put that money in the U. S. economy and let the other countries eat there oil.
6. Oh yes, on immigrations and the illegal entry form all countries that come here illegally. Tell you’re State and Federal U.S. Senators & U.S. Congressmen to pass a bill charging the country of origin $10,000.00 for everyone we send back and they will more then likely make sure they do not come to the United States illegal. If they don’t pay put it on a bill should they owe us money and charge them a high interest on that bill.
Thank you,
Lawrence H. Ryan
North Carolina, yeah. North Carolina!
Those of us who live in NC, as opposed to those who merely pontificate upon it, have known that this was "Obama Country" since last winter.
Did no one heed the May primary here? That was, without a doubt, the most closely contested of the entire primary season - the Clintons put in over 100 appearances amongst the three of them (to say nothing of their surrogates beyond the family), and actually managed to spend on par with Obama for advertising in NC. All the polls showed a much narrower race after the PA primary in April and six weeks of all-Reverend-Wright, all=the-time news coverage. Still, Obama managed to win the state by over 14%. More impressively, he had won it *before* election day proper, just on the strength of his enormous advantage in early voting turnout.
North Carolina has always been a "purple" state, though it has supported Republican Presidential candidates since Reagan. But NC has also always been a state full of pragmatists and people who think "politics" matters less than "solutions." So none of us Tar Heels is all that surprised by Obama's strong showing here. We're just surprised it's taken everyone else so long to cotton on to it.
