Obama's Speech—Where's Truman?

good call
Clearly Truman belonged in that mention, for the reasons you list.
LBJ
What about LBJ? Your easy rejection of him is emblematic of the current liberal consensus that he must be forgotten wherever possible. If anything, he was defending what the conventional wisdom at the time said needed to be done. Have you not studied history? This is a source of never ending disgust and sad amusement-that the party he sweated blood for and did so much for should ignore him the way it does. That is flat wrong. "Feel good" liberals/Democrats do not want or cannot accept his humanity and forgive him for it. After all, he inherited a policy from Ike and JFK. Hindsight is 20/20. he agonized over Vietnam as any true patriot would. Fault the ideology of Communist containment or its methods, but don't fault the man for doing what he thought was best and for not being superhuman.
At the very least Obama and other prominent liberals ought to ackowldege his Civil Rights record. They do sometimes begrudgingly.
Where's Truman?
Oh please, just be quite. If that's all you took from this speech, you shouldn't complain about anything anyone writes! Please just shut up!
