i think if your going to raise the tax on cigarettes the money should at least be for the health care of the people who have smoking related illnesses.or to find a cure for lung cancer.and if your going to raise the taxes on that you should do the same on every other bad habit . but we the tax payers are to blame because no one is willing to stand up to the government !!! people always think someone else will.so here we are a slave to habits that feed the corrupt.but i think the smokers deserve more credit . because if you think about it , they are dying from smoking and paying for childrens health care from the tax they have to pay . its no different than a soldier dying for his country .
taxation is the first line of an offense
Taxes get higher, utilities get higher, groceries get higher, who does this impact the most?...the lower class, the middle class and most of all the poor. Who does this not impact?...the rich, the politicians, (read rich). Are we in the foregrounds of what may well become the ruination of America? Obama has now exposed his first lie to the American people when he promised no new taxes. What is the next of his lies to be exposed? Does he care if the poor do not eat? If the poor cannot pay their utility bills? If because of the previous they cannot afford good healthcare? Evidently not!!!! Oh yes, Change you can believe in. But you will not like the changes he will bring about. Did I hear someone say Anti-Christ? My prediction is the next step, take away the guns, then the people cannot affect change through violent means. People should not fear their governments, Governments should fear their people.

Can anyone tell me if it's legal to grow your own tobacco in Texas? Also where can I purchase the seeds if so.

My comment on the tax of 1.00 per pack..
I think its a crime that you can do this to people who choose to smoke whether you do or not.If you wanted to increase taxes you should have done it to alcohol because many accidents are caused by it in florida with numerous people with drinking problems. Florida is not New york where jobs pay way more . Their are very few jobs unless you enjoy the food industry which should have been changed along time ago with the amount of land available in florida. Wake up in the senate..you all have good paying jobs and its about time you think about all of the poor and lower income people in florida. Alcohol kills more people in car accidents verses cigarettes..Im sure everyone in government drinks and maybe thats why taxes never go sky high. Shame on all of you and especially you Mr Crist for reneging on your original proposal..Obama no comment ..Don't worry "we will be in the poor house for decades to come when his term is up!

So I switched to roll-your-owns Jan before last when my brand went up a buck to just over 5 a pack. You could still roll 35 smokes for $2.09. That same pouch is now 4.59. I'll grow my own. Frankly the government has more incentive to sell tobacco than the tobacco companies now. Not only do they have a larger "take" per pack than RJR, but the only thing they actually put into the product is that little tiny stamp on the bottom. Notice also that the P.S.A.'s the government made the tobacco companies pay for are fear/stress inducing for smokers - making them want to smoke more. While I realize that the Bush/Clinton syndicate set up the fall of the American companies - Obama is playing his roll of bag man perfectly. The USG inc. now has a death grip over the banks, detroit, ammo, and now tobacco. Socialist my ripe baboon behiny - try the facist system that Prescott always tried for. I know plenty of people already attempting their first grow your own. A fair method would have been for the government to hand out tobacco plants and make the sale of addictive products illegal. Assigning a monetary value to an addictive product is immoral, too bad morality is galaxies away from anything politicians would know about.

Nothing to buy now...
I used to smoke (for 36 years), but now I can't see paying such a high price for cigarettes. So I went cold turkey and quit.
I also used to drive, but when gas hit $4 a gallon, I quit driving. I'm fortunate that I live close to work and can ride a bicycle. Also, everything I need is within bicycle range.
Since the prices of almost everything have skyrocketed, I have learned to live on far less, and my spending has dropped to almost a quarter of what it used to be. I sold my car, canceled my insurance, and found ways to use less energy at my house. I grow my own fruits and veggies now, and have reduced my meat intake by 80 percent. I shop at yard sales and thrift stores for my clothing and most of my other needs now.
Last year, I earned $24, 000 from my work. I put $12,000 of that in the bank (savings) and bought $8,000 worth of gold and silver. I survived the entire year comfortably on $4,000. I will spend even less this year, because my 2 pack a day habit is now history.
In the years prior to 2008, I was lucky to have $2000 left over at year's end. Now I'm probably going to be spending only $2000 for the entire year's needs.
I realize I'm not helping the economy by hoarding all this cash, but if prices were more reasonable, I would have never found ways to cut back. I also believe I am not the only one doing these things, because everyone I know personally has cut way back on their spending.

i never supported obama except on the raising the taxes on the rich thing. I didnt follow his campaign too closely, but i dont remeber him ever saying ur state taxes wouldnt increase. In cali, the state rose cigarette taxes but they had to, theyre broke. i believe Arizona too, but they didnt take the blame. they blamed obama. the ciggarette company wants to raise the costs of the nictoine (again) because theyre taxes wll go up.(yes, due to obama) As the goods of a company must be taxed, theyre gonna make up 'loss' revenue by raising the price. its naieve to think obama could stop ALL taxes for the poor.
Thing is: america is broke. and obama, just like hilary and the other guy, all had some good ideas but no matter who won, someone or something will enevitably block some of their progrss. AND in the end, taxes are the #1 way to bring money back to the government. So whoever won, we were all gonna end up paying more taxes somewhere to help handle the crisis BUSH put us in.
I say, if you want to smoke, youll pay what it costs. If you value your money more than the ciggarette, then youll prabubly stop smoking. Im considereing stopping myself. 40-50$ extra per year to support my habit wont affect me, but it sure will for someone making $15000 a year, livinf paycheck to paycheck. But get this, i hear college students and people of the lower income class say: well i guess i gotta quit/cutback smoking" while people in my tax bracket say " hey, why is obama taxing us?" HAHAHAHA Which of them makes more sense? Well, its not the guy blaming obama, thats for sure....
