University of Minnesota

I heard, with a very rough estimate that the University of Minnesota had about 35,000 applicants and accepted only 6,000. Thats roughly 17%, which is a dramatic decrease from what it used to be. I have heard that the U of Minn has really increased their standards the last few years. And with the struggling economy, their out of state tuition is only in the 15K range, applicant numbers have increased by 100% in the last 3 years.

Music

Curtis Institute of Music has an acceptance rate of 4.7%

Applicants

Since the number of applicants are increasing, what does this really prove?

Stanford admission rate is most competitive ever

Stanford University announced today that 2,300 candidates have been offered admission to its undergraduate Class of 2013.

The figure represents an admission rate of just 7.6 percent, the most competitive in the university's history.

The university received an unprecedented 30,428 applications. The Office of Undergraduate Admission initially anticipated approximately 25,000 applications but experienced a 20 percent surge, possibly because of enhanced financial aid programs that make Stanford more affordable for low- and middle-income families.

College Acceptance Rate Question

Any idea whether schools put more applicants on waiting lists as a way to manage enrollment?

Where is Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt also saw an amazing decrease in the admission rate; I think it fell down to 18.9%. Really close to top schools like Duke and UPenn!
