New York Students Protest Governor's Tuition Hike Plan

Thousands descended upon New York's City Hall Thursday to protest Gov. David Paterson's proposal to cut higher education and healthcare, the Washington Square News reported. The plan would slash aid to schools by $2 million and raise tuition at state universities.

New York University students were in attendance, but it was Hunter College students who walked out of their classes in protest of the tuition hikes. "CUNY is made up of working-class students and students of color who really can't afford to go anywhere else," said one of the protesting Hunter students. "It was supposed to be free when it opened up, and tuition has been increasing ever since."

Larry, Shut your mouth for free!

I have a job, an internship, and I'm a full time college student! I even do side jobs to get by. How about you get a LIFE and don't suck at it?

No One Looking for Free

I graduated from the NY SUNY system. I recieved a fantastic education and now have a successful career. If not for the affordable tuition and the help of student loans and grants, I would not have been able to attend, being from a lower income family.

The student walkout in Hunter has NOTHING to do with "typical Libs" wanting free stuff. It has everything to do with trying to make a better life through a good education.

I bet these students, just like I did, do have JOBS!

I know times are tough all over, but the students in SUNY system deserve a shot and increasing tuition and eliminating funds will make it a lot tougher.

We Want Free Stuff

typical Libs want everything for free or next to free.

How about getting a JOB and working your way through college?
