Kent State Cancels 60 Faculty Sabbaticals
To save money, the provost at Kent State University has canceled 60 faculty sabbaticals next year, the Daily Kent Stater reports. The money saved adds up to around $500,000.
"The university decided that this was [an] appropriate decision to make to try to harbor our resources and use them more effectively," the provost said.
Faculty who are allowed to take sabbaticals are tenured and have worked a minimum of seven full-time years. They must have at least the rank of assistant professor.
Those affected are allowed to appeal the decision, and at least three professors have been granted their appeals because most of their research funding had come from outside sources.
