California Cuts Mean Fewer Jobs for Student Workers

Budget cuts in California were bound to trickle down to student workers: The hiring service at Sacramento State University that gets students jobs doing research/internships for the state has cut the number of jobs it can offer to students by more than two thirds, from almost 2,000 to 550, the State Hornet reports. The hiring service (sort of) explains that "the students who no longer are working for the state didn't necessarily lose their jobs completely; they were just told not to work because there was no money to pay them."

The Sacramento State cuts were just a portion of the more than 10,000 temporary and part-time employees who were downsized out of the state budget this year.
