Penn State Freshmen Banned From Summer Greek Events
In order to rid incoming freshmen of the crazy idea that "all [fraternities] do is drink," the director of Greek life at Penn State has banned freshmen from attending social events at fraternities during the summer, the Daily Collegian reports. Instead, the director is encouraging freshmen to attend official (and booze-free) recruiting events at the beginning of the school year in hopes of boosting flagging fraternity numbers at the school. "If we don't do recruitment right, this Greek system is gonna die."
The new policy also addresses safety and legal concerns that in the past have led fraternities to the brink of removal. Freshmen who are caught partying with fraternities and sororities during the summer could be barred from joining a Greek organization in the future.
