Damage at Kansas State May Cost $20 Million

Damage from Wednesday night storms and a tornado that hit Kansas State University could exceed $20 million, the school estimates. At least five buildings sustained damage—one severely—including the building that houses the school's nuclear reactor, which was undamaged. Aptly enough, the university's Wind Erosion Laboratory also was destroyed.

Roofs and windows of buildings were destroyed or torn off , while the campus—part of which was still without power this morning—is littered with downed light poles, overturned cars, and broken tree limbs, the Kansas State Collegian reports. The Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house was heavily damaged, and a nearby apartment complex is missing its roof.

No one was injured, but classes were canceled for the day. And freshman orientation has been moved but not called off, just like it has at some other universities in the weather-ravaged Midwest.
