Illinois Grad Students Protest Ban on Political Activity

Protesting a state law that prohibits state employees from engaging in political activity, about 30 University of Illinois students and faculty held a campus rally Thursday, the Daily Illini reports. The protesters held signs that, for the most part, supported Barack Obama. Teaching assistants who participated intended to self-report their actions as an "act of civil disobedience."

The protest was a direct response to a September 18 memo that reminded employees of the state and university policy.
