Georgetown Sickness Caused by Norovirus
District of Columbia health officials have determined that the sickness that caused more than 170 Georgetown students to seek medical help was the norovirus, the Hoya reports. The bug can be spread through contaminated food and person-to-person contact. The school has taken steps to prevent its spread.
A dining hall that had been closed soon after the outbreak has been fully sanitized and reopened, but students are required to use hand-sanitizer before they enter and at bathroom exits. Similarly, the salad bar is closed, and all food, "from hot meals to sour cream," will be served by staff.
