Youngstown State Student Begs for More Parking Lot Security
A student at Youngstown State University is asking for more security after her car was stolen once and vandalized two other times in the past year and a half. She has asked the university to install more security cameras and, at the very least, ask police to be a little more courteous when vandals strike. She says after her Cutlass Ciera was stolen (and later found), the police answered her request for a fingerprint check with a snide, "You watch too much Law & Order."

It's a typical response
In all of my dealings with law enforcement where I have been a victim of a non-injury crime, there is no investigation, no follow-up, no criminal case opened. They seem to resent even being called to the scene (which in the case of vandalism on a rented unit is needed to prove the damage wasn't caused by you so you don't have to pay to have it fixed).
The bottom line is, if there's no blood, they DO NOT CARE. Whether this is because there are more 'important' crimes out there to deal with or they just can't be bothered for something so 'petty' seems to be moot. Unless there is blood, they don't investigate. Their callous response is very typical of the law enforcement departments I've met.
