Travel Costs Have GW Athletes Staying Close to Home

Because of rising gas and travel costs, George Washington University is trying to schedule more home and nearby away games for its sports teams. "Whether you fly or you take a bus, the price of gas hurts," said the GW athletic director. "People are all excited about how gas is $3.85 instead of $4. It's still $3.85." As opposed to the university's less prominent sports teams, the basketball team is having the most difficulty scheduling games closer to its D.C. location, with away matches in Boston, Alabama, California, and Hawaii. Officials are also worried about the airlines' new extra baggage fees, which could cost hundreds for each trip.
