A COUGAR SIGHTING IN NC

I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE MY EXPERIENCE OF SPOTTING A BLACK COUGAR OR ONE HECK OF A CAT IN NC. ON HIGHWAY 27, OUTSIDE OF LILLINGTON,NC AT THE LANDFILL. THIS CAT WAS HUGE- AT LEAST 65 LBS OR LARGER. IN MY AMAZEMENT AFTER FIRST REALIZING IT WAS A HUGE CAT- I WATCHED IT RUN ACROSS THE YELLOW SAND AT THE LANDFILL. I STOOD THERE AND OBSERVED THE CAT FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES. THEN HE DISAPPEARED INTO THE WOODS. I JUST WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS SEEN A COUGAR IN THIS AREA AS WELL? I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT I SEEN.

AMAZED IN FUQUAY

Cougar(s) in Blackstone, VA

Cougars have been making an appearance lately in a rural town in Virginia, too. Several local residents have seen one in the last few years but kept quiet because they didn't think anyone would believe it. A number of sightings have been made public from March thru July 2008. Go to www.cougarintheneighborhood.blogspot.com to read about the Blackstone incidents. Many letters have more recently started coming in to the local newspaper from all over the U.S. telling about sightings in other states.

Cougar

On August 1,08 playing golf my foursum all saw a what looked like orange/brown lab w/ a cat head and face. It looked to weigh about 100lbs to 120lbs we were about 40yrds away. I know that it is very unlikely it was a mt.lion but when you see what we saw you would think you were in Montana. It was something right out of the zoo. They say there was a sighting in Monmouth Maine and the golf course was in Leeds Maine not far from each other.

As discussed at lunch

on the prowl

They should check at Bentleys, otherwise she probably went to Bethesda.

Was also seen on Ashcake Rd in Mechanicsville, VA

A friend of mine was asking us if anyone had heard of a cougar in the area. He was very concerned but quite sure that was what he saw sitting in a ditch on Ashcake Rd in Mechanicsville. He was telling us this story on July 5th stating that he had seen it earlier in the week or week before!

cougar sightings in maryland

Cougars once ranged throughout the eastern states until hunting, trapping, and land developemnet all but wiped them out. Being the elusive cat that it is, its not unlikely that some have held on in the mountains of Maryland and West Virginia. Aninmals adapt a lot better than we give them credit for.

I remember as a child who did a lot of camping during the 1950s a number of nature books often stated that there were no water moccasins in the state of Maryland! Well, somebody forgot to tell the water moccasins to pull out their fangs and the white lining in their mouths so that they would be uniform with the rest of the water snakes!

just wanted to point out that you're wrong:

In particular, the cougar was extirpated in eastern North America, except an isolated sub-population in Florida; the animal may be recolonizing parts of its former eastern territory.

It's in wikipedia so it must be true!
