Ex-Dolphins Quarterback Becomes 'Dr. Dan' (Marino) at Pittsburgh

June 06, 2008 05:17 PM ET | Alison Go | Permanent Link | Print

Arguably the University of Pittsburgh's most famous alumnus, Dan Marino told grads at commencement to have an impact on their community and to live their lives in ways that cannot be regretted.

"You want to look back and say that I did the best I could; I gave it my best shot; that I worked hard and followed my dreams; that I made a difference in people's lives," he said. "If you can do that...you will have peace of mind, no matter where life takes you."

A nice sentiment, coming from a madly successful, record-breaking NFL Hall of Fame quarterback. I guess that's what he tells himself when he thinks about the Super Bowl Championship that never was.

Pitt graduation

I was at that ceremony, my daughter graduated! and i just want to say how very moving and what a fun day it was. I was proud of my daughter and Pitt University. Dr. Dan gave a very moving and heartfelt speech. I love Oakland and the city of Pittsburgh.

cheap shot

I am a Georgetown Hoya, and don't mind beating Pitt one bit. But I despise cheap shots. Dan Marino gives of his time and comes up with a speech for graduates. Life in the public eye requires a thick skin because some people can be jersk. The Super Bowl comment comes from a jerk.

That is an unbelievably cheap, stupid trashy comment and I will repeat the question; "How many superbowls have you won?"

Or more to the point, how may Pulitzer's have you won? Because if you don't win a Pulitzer in your profession, you are of course a worthless failure.

Do you have kids? Are they worthless failures like you are? Or will nobody spawn with you to begin with?

Anywhere else these comments would be trolling but they are a perfectly appropriate response to this drivel.

Furthermore if you cant take it, don't dish it out.
