Binge Drinking

I don't find the study hard to believe. When I was a young NavCad (Naval Aviation Cadet) Friday evening was (unofficially) compulsory Happy Hour at the Officers' Club. A practice bomb shell without the projectile was filled with beer and passed around the table.

Each in turn had to drink as much as he could in one draught without taking it down from his lips. Then the next and so on around the table to five other guys. If the last one didn't empty the shell, it was refilled and passed around again.

So the binge drinking stories from Big Mo neither shock me nor awaken any disbelief.

What would it take to believe it?

Gee, I don't know- at Missouri there's a tradition of scrap-booking your drinks that night. Some people also post their "adventures" on Youtube & faceook. If the person had a written record of the name of the drink they had, a few notes from friends as to how wasted they were, and had it all tied up in a neat little scrap book would you believe it then?

I guess another reason I think I believe it is that the other numbers from the survey seem to match well with bar-observation studies and diary studies. Just a thought as to why this study isn't a "gee let's fill out a survey" type bit of research.

Let's not be hasty

One could drink 21 drinks if they were strung out over a long period of time. Start drinking in the morning, pass out late at night.

Doubt #5

Once you've had say 10 drinks, especially if you are a lady, your counting skills become impaired while your lying skills are strongly empowered.
