Georgia Faculty Criticize Clarence Thomas Visit

Clarence Thomas at Georgia

This is simply another demonstration of the left-wing takeover of faculties in American universities.

A couple of things should be pointed out:

The University of Georgia is a land grant institution, meaning that it was created by a grant of land by the Federal government; i.e., by American taxpayers. The university exists to educate the citizenry of Georgia, not to serve as a forum for tenured liberal windbags, who are advised to keep their traps shut and their eyes open.

To have a sitting Justice of the US Supreme Court speak at commencement seems to be an attractive choice; who would the liberal faculty choose instead? Keith Olbermann the sportscaster?!

The Supreme Court

Asking Clarence Thomas to speak at a Georgia University is about as bad a choice as could be made, considering he is not just another Supreme Court Justice, but is one who never should have been appointed without convincing DISPROOF of the Anita Hill allegations (for benefit of the Court itself in public opinion), and considering he is now part of an outrageous religious majority formed on that Court by President Bush (with the addition of Roberts and Alito.)

Scalia, Thomas, Roberts, Alito and Kennedy are five members of a single church (Catholic) -- an unbelievable little "club" who also mostly share a "conservative" view of things and also mostly share a background of being NOT being lawyers who spent much time representing individual citizens in courts. They are corporate/government guys who regrettably can be seen as bullying the public with 5/4 decsisions at their "clubish" whim.

This travesty of like-minded majority, of course, is not the fault of Justice Thomas or Catholic parishoners. Bush, with very bad judgment, caused it. But it's certainly something that universities ought to consider before they invite people to speak. They could have invited any of hundreds or thousands of "important" people. If I was in the graduating class, I'd be pretty disappointed with my commencement ceremony.

Clarence Thomas v. School Teachers(aka Professors)

#1 what give a bunch of school teacher the right to decide who does or does not speack on the campus of the University of GEORGIA. Last time I checked GEORGIA was a the name of a state not the name of a group of overly self important school teachers. The tax payers and the tuition payer pay the bills, if they want to hear Larry Flynt, so be it.

#2 If Judge Thomas was a left wing terrorist sympathizer how make mistakes could he make in his life and still be a celebrate scholar? People who live life, work hard and accomplish something (other than generate large stacks of paper) will alway make mistakes. There is no doubt in my mind that his behavior toward Anita Hill was inappropriate, how long is he suppose to where his scarlet letter?

#3 If Anita Hill was a gay man and had been harrased. Would any women's studies faculty be jumping up and down about the violation of human rights? Think not.

Thomas v. The Left Wing

My son starts at UGA next fall and I hope he will have the gumption to stand up and confront any left-leaning pedagogues he gets in his classes. I know he doesn't share their views, and I believe he'd be proud to have a speaker like Thomas - a true American success story - speak at his graduation.

I find it particularly offensive that at a time when the left says any criticism of Obama must be racially motivated, that they don't see their own hypocrisy in the criticism of Thomas.

Thomas-here we go again.

America has what it deserves - Americans elected Bush, he appointed Thomas, and a Republican Congress ratified this nomination. Other American policies that have been ratified in the past: slavery, segregation, and discrimination. Will we ever learn the lessons? Those same policies were defended as Thomas is now being defended. Time and history will once again judge America long after we're in a position to do anything about it.

Clarence Thomas at commencement

What a dismal choice for a commencement speaker. This is a public lynching of womens rights. His major may have been law,his most outstanding subject was sexual harassment. His uncle Tom kissing up to fat Tony Scalia is an embaresment to his race.

Justice Thomas at UGA

My son graduation from UGA this past Saturday. He and our entire family were extremely honored to have a sitting U.S. Supreme Court Justice give the Commencement address. Said speech was moving, thoughtful and inspiring. Thank you Justice Thomas, for such an honor.

Noones opinion

I am not American. I do not know much abbout this Judge's history. But what i heard on C-Span in 3AM (speech at Athens, Georgia) was the wisdom of life, spoken from the mouth of the wise man. In a search for that speach I ended up here. I hope to find it and keep it for future reference.
