Three Dead After Shooting at Louisiana Technical College

Whatever the females deal was...it was no reason to take the life of 2 others. No matter how many times I've thought about offing myself, you just gotta sit back, think, and breathe. Then you'll come to realize nothing can be that bad or that serious to take your own life much less other peoples just because of the way you feel at the moment. My heart goes out to anyone who has ever lost someone.
who is arguing for gun control here?
Why did this forum get turned into a 2nd amendment debate?
Ive found one pro gun control post and it is obviously spam for a blog.
red herring
2nd Amemdment
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
"A well regulated"
Having the Equipment and training necessary for use of said equipment.
"Militia"
Citizens ordinarily, soldiers occasionally. ref USC Title 10 for definition of militia. Not specifically the National Guard, since it had yet to be created.
"being necessary to the security of a free State"
As opposed to a tyrannical State or Dictatorship or whatever.
"the right of the people"
These same people that have the right to peaceable assembly, religion... Rights are not created by the Constitution or Bill of Rights. They predate the Constitution and a few are enumerated in the Bill of Rights to remind the Government that they are there, just in case the Government forgets their place in the order of things.
"to keep and bear Arms"
"To keep" in my house and on my person, "and bear Arms" in a manner of personal or collective defense. You bring a weapon to bear prior to use.
"shall not be infringed. "

Did I miss something?

School shootings-general
You know, it's weird, but back in the 40's, 50's, and 60's (and heck, probably even the 70's. I dunno about the 80's) there were about as many guns per capita, but there were no school shootings.
I don't think that the problem is the availability of guns, but rather the long-term effect of some cultural or societal changes. Perhaps it's the movies, perhaps it's the games, perhaps it's the school system, perhaps a combination, perhaps none of these.
If you wish to debate this point, I have created a thread here: http://airow.com/general/54740 (you don't have to register a name or an account or anything).
what causes this violence ?
The USA has the highest homicide rate of any "developed" country. And by far more mass-killings than anywhere except war zones. We need to look and listen with our HEARTS and minds to find where we are going wrong as a culture.
Children are raised on ultra-violent video games, comics, movies & WWF wrestling matches, etc; and this violence & domination-by-brute-strength is usually portrayed as "heroic" and as the way to solve problems. And we wonder why the violence when somebody "loses it" ? And why so many sports "heroes" who wanted to "dominate" no matter what, are getting caught using steroids ?
We are "feeding" our children the emotional/mental/spiritual "food" that makes them who they are as adults -- and makes our resultant societal problems.
Same for our other problems --
For instance, "medicating" every time we feel unhappy instead of learning to work with our feelings & find peace inside -- which leads to addictions to legal drugs (alcohol & prescription drugs) and illegal, not to mention "shopping therapy," eating disorders & other temporary fixes.
For instance, huge rates of obesity, heart attack/stroke & an EPIDEMIC of adult-onset diabetes that is due simply to what we LEARNED to eat.
For instance, crazy credit card debt buy-now culture -- adults got their start as little kids, constantly being fed "get-mom-to-buy-this-toy-NOW" TV ads, or watching their parents live beyond their means on the credit-card hampster-wheel.
The one "good" that can come out of all of these crises, and the best way that we can honor the shooting victims and their grieving families & friends -- is that we as a culture and as individuals can take responsibility to see what as a culture do we need to learn from this, what do we need to change, instead of simply saying, oh that bad crazy person, let's just lock em all up, got nothing to do with me.
We want to think this is done by bad or crazy people totally unlike us or anyone we know, but many of these people were liked and considered normal & had friends & family like you and me. We don't want to think it, but our kid or our friend or relative or neighbor could lose it and be a mass killer down the road.
More prisons & more punitive laws will not solve the ills we have created as a culture.
Neither will criminalizing/ banning gun ownership -- there will always be an accessible black market for what we make illegal. Though better background checking is important for criminal & mental-health history, and holding gun sellers liable if they fail here. And also -- certain kinds of weapons are not needed for sport or self-protection: why is the NRA fighting for the right of individuals to own machine guns?
A waiting period for gun-buying can stop the most impulsive would-be murderers. But most of these mass-murderers who "lost it" have been very patient & persistent, often planning for weeks or months, getting weapons online, sometimes with fake ID's, etc. If someone has decided to kill someone, do you think they care if they have to break the law to buy a gun on the black market?
Basically these people have descended into a place of mental illness, a place where laws and heart and ethics and "normal reality" did not apply, a strange place that we don't understand and don't want to look at, we would rather call it evil and let it go at that.
We as a culture do not handle mental illness well. We don't want to see it or know about it. If someone in our family is "being weird," we don't want the outside public to know, lots of shame and denial. We medicate it, which is a band-aid which does not get to the root or heal anything, and often medications have been shown to contribute to someone's violence.
And as a result of not wanting to see the illness, we fail to see the warning signs when someone may be a danger to others.
Also, as Americans, we value individual liberty and we fear having our individual liberty taken from us by others, and so we are loathe to commit/lock up someone who only MAY be a danger -- what if we are wrong, and we have deprived someone of their liberty?
I realize that some mental illness is purely brain chemistry and medications are sometimes what's needed. But much mental illness is a result of traumatic experiences, and can be worked with and healed. And some mental illness is from brain chemical imbalances caused by toxins which can be cleared from the body, there have been a lot of interesting findings here, but the companies that sell psych drugs don't want us to know about other causes and other solutions.
For instance our dear returning Vets, so many of whom are coming back with serious emotional trauma, and they have been taught to be "killing machines" to boot -- many of them have admitted it's really hard to turn off the impulse to violence, which has been trained into them so thoroughly. And over there, their life depended on reacting FAST to sudden noises/ surprises as threats to LIFE. Many can't function well in "normal life" and therefore feel useless & alienated. If we don't help these guys (and our current administration is trying REALLY hard to avoid paying for their mental & physical health care), and if we try to avoid dealing with them, you can BET we will see a lot of trouble, we already are -- There were 6,500 Vet suicides in 2005 alone (I have no statistics about violence directed at others instead of self).
woops, that was a LOT of thoughts!

guns
This is a societal problem. We need to get to the root of the problem. If there are stricter laws, it would be harder to obtain guns. This does not necessarily stop people from killing each other, but its a start. People, we need to start somewhere. Our society is not heading in the right direction.
I JUST WANT TO SAY GOD HELP EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD BLACK,WHITES,HISPANICS & KIDS WHO ARE TRYING TO GET AN EDUCATION DAVID YOU ARE VERY STUPID REMEMBER THAT YOU HAVE FAMILY TOO, I AM A MOTHER OF FOUR AND PRAY EVERY DAY THAT THEY GET HOME SAFE EVERY DAY.AND PRAY FOR THE ONES THAT BECAUSE OF STUPID PEOPLE DONT MAKE IT HOME .
killings at LTC
I wish some of you people would wake up and use your FN heads. There are over 200 million fully funtioning firearms in circulaiton in the U.S. Are you going to confiscate all 200 mil? Are you going to take them from only those who possess them legally? or are you going to magically confiscate all being possessed unlawfully as well? you know, by the criminals who actually use them to do harm. Do you want to live in a society in which the only people who have guns are the gov't and the criminals? The 2nd Amendment DOES apply to the individuaL just as all the other amendments that refer to "the people" do. I guess the right of "the people" in the 1st amendment does not apply to me as an individual? I guess I don't really have freedom of expression, only "the people", as a collective group. Some of the views expressed here are very dangerous and make me fearful of the future for our FREE society. But those views are secured by the very freedom that you despise. The truth is that our freedom was secured by the very idea now represented in the 2nd and it is maintained by that right. If "the people", meaning you and I were permitted to exersize our constitutional right as intended by the founders of our great nation, then the possession of firearms on college campuses would be lawful. Just how many of these tragedies would be prevented if this was the case? The real tragedy is is that we DO NOT know?
stop starting mess
See if people would close their mouth maybe that would'nt happend but since people got to always juge other of the way they look, the way they dress, and the way they talk, and how smart they are .Then people gonna say o who do she thank she is . And that's annoying.See like virgina tech to many kids not grown ups was talking about him like sum 4yr old won't be quite and thats probley why he shoot the one that he wanted. Just like baton, rouge La my 5 ken people was shoot to death because of mess and i was very sad about what happend and i wish i could just see them again but can't but i know their in a better place in heaven smalling down on me.
Also if people would tell thier children the truth about life, love, guns, and god the this hell hole of a world might be better. I have 4 kids 15,10,10,and 4. Itell them the truth about everything. they know what is real, what is fake. They know right from wrong. Most important they know life is god's to take away. Not guns or violence.
