Dartmouth Eats Up New Hampshire Primary Season

The Dartmouth has been indulging itself in a New Hampshire primary-palooza. Highlights:

1. John McCain still dislikes "Islamo-fascist extremism" and still supports the surge of American troops in Iraq. He also wants us to be like the French, at least when it comes to using nuclear power to fight climate change.

2. Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm creator Larry David praised Barack Obama's cleansing effect. "The country needs a shower, a good, long, hot shower. That's what Obama is, a hot shower. So fresh you can smell him, delicious." He also has some advice for the Illinois junior senator: "He needs to avoid saying [expletive] in his speech and sexual come-ons to women around him. He also needs to avoid going, 'I dunno if I can do this, I'm scared.' Other than that, it'll be all right."

3. Bill Clinton spoke at a gym at Dartmouth, then, for diversity's sake, made a surprise visit to a dining hall. The former president expressed anger over the press's coverage of the campaign, touted Hillary Clinton's experience and public service, and—to a student-filled audience—highlighted her commitment to increasing grants and lowering student-loan interest rates.

4. According to an incredibly unofficial and very likely flawed straw poll, Dartmouth students who attended a Democratic mock debate disproportionately like Democrat Bill Richardson, giving him 17 percent of the vote. But they mostly like Barack Obama, to the tune of 65 percent.

5. Campus religious groups—Christian, Muslim, Jewish, etc., alike—have mostly abstained from endorsing candidates. The former Baptist minister Mike Huckabee is the not-surprising exception to this rule.
