Police Get to Leave Poop Behind

September 05, 2007 01:14 PM ET | Alison Go | Permanent Link | Print

Proving once again that the police are a privileged lot, the Madison (Wis.) City Council passed an ordinance that excuses officers on patrol from having to scoop the poop their four-legged friends leave behind, the Badger Herald reports. The council OK'd the exception so officers could patrol large and often unruly events like University of Wisconsin football games without having to stop and clean up after their horses or dogs.

Horse diapers were also discussed as an option but quickly rejected because one alder "worried inebriated citizens might pull at the diapers and a dangerous situation might ensue." That, and the likelihood that mounted police would lose the little dignity they had left. —Alison Go
