Latino Frat and Police Get Metaphorically Rowdy
Just as Hispanic Heritage Month kicks off, University of Wisconsin officials and a Latino fraternity are at odds over a party that was canceled by university police last weekend, the Badger Herald reports. The fraternity has accused the university of racial profiling, adding that groups holding hip-hop events are regularly forced to attend extra safety meetings with police, unlike most other student organizations.
The police told the Badger Herald they canceled the event because of "a crowd control issue" and worries that the football game earlier in the day would leave the force understaffed. Several student groups and police plan to meet to discuss the topic, while the fraternity has said it is evaluating its legal options.
