The Funny Thing About Virgins...

Is that they tend to be really smart or really dumb.

A study out of the University of North Carolina shows that young people with an IQ score either below 70 or above 110 are more likely to be virgins than their average-intelligence counterparts, writes Penn State's Daily Collegian. A number of other studies have confirmed the bell-shaped relationship between IQ scores and sex. Other interesting tidbits, according to the Collegian article:

An adolescent with an IQ score of 100 was 1.5 to 5 times more likely to have had intercourse than an adolescent with an above-average score of about 120 to 130.

According to a survey held by Counterpoint Magazine, 60 percent of undergraduates at Wellesley are virgins, and 47 percent of undergraduates at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are virgins. The same survey found that no studio art majors at Wellesley were virgins, while 72 percent of biology majors and 83 percent of biochemistry and math majors were virgins. (Is this implying that studio art majors are more stupid than math majors?)

One researcher points out that while low-IQ adolescents are less likely to have sex, they are also less likely to use contraceptives when they do. Time to warn the Population Institute. —Alison Go
