Yes, we know, textbooks are expensive, but that long series of tubes (otherwise known as the Internet) may (or may not) ease the pain on your pocketbooks. Netflix-style textbook rentals and e-books have quietly grown in popularity, despite doubts (many from bookstore owners) that the money saved from these online services really exists once you factor in buybacks.
