Students Head Online for Books While Bookstores Hold On for Dear Life

Yes, we know, textbooks are expensive, but that long series of tubes (otherwise known as the Internet) may (or may not) ease the pain on your pocketbooks. Netflix-style textbook rentals and e-books have quietly grown in popularity, despite doubts (many from bookstore owners) that the money saved from these online services really exists once you factor in buybacks. Or you can do like one North Carolina State student—and not buy any books at all.   —Alison Go
