If at First You Don't Succeed...
If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. And if they don't, they never were. —Kahlil Gibran
So goes the story of Gordon Gee's break from Ohio State University. The bow-tie-clad college president has come home after a short fling with Brown University (1997-2000) and a more substantial tryst with Vanderbilt University (2000-2007), where he was the highest-paid university head in the country, making more than $1 million annually.
The jilted Vanderbilt community was "shocked" at Gee's sudden departure. Luckily, "students expressed overall confidence in the Board of Trust and in the resilience of Vanderbilt." How brave of them.
Meanwhile, Ohio State welcomed Gee with a "thunderous standing ovation." Perhaps because, according to the Lantern, one of Gee's favorite activities is attending student parties. —Alison Go
