Worst Halloween Costume Ever

December 07, 2007 05:17 PM ET | Alison Go | Permanent Link | Print

If you thought black face paint was a bad Halloween costume, how about the Penn State students who dressed up as victims from the Virginia Tech massacre? According to the Daily Collegian, pictures featuring a pair dressed in bloodstained, bullet-hole-riddled Virginia Tech shirts have circulated the Internet and were featured in a Virginia TV station newscast—and have been called "insensitive," "sickening," "appalling," and probably a whole lot of other horrible things. Said a Penn State student: "If I was at Virginia Tech, I would hate Penn State for life."

Karma is quick sometimes

Here's a footnote-

This young man will one day be an old man with a lot of regrets. And he wonders why he has no "outside support"? Are we to somehow forgive him his callousness or idiocy in refusing to make a public apology because he has suffered the loss of his own mother recently? You would think an event like that would help someone develop empathy for others who have lost loved ones--instead of the reverse. While I am sorry for his loss, I have no forgiveness for this yound fool until he can show some civility and sense of remorse for his stupid behavior and subsequent statements

.

Reported by on Roanoke .com:

"Penn State student loses job over Tech victim costume

Nathan Jones, one of the Penn State University students who dressed for Halloween as a Virginia Tech shooting victim, said the controversy has cost him his job.

In an e-mail Friday, Jones said he was asked to resign Thursday from his post at Bank of America or be fired.

"They were worried that my name may be attached to the Bank of America brand, and that this controversy would lead to a scandal," he said.

Photos of Jones and another Penn State student were posted on Facebook and caused a national outcry.

In interviews with several media outlets, including an on-camera piece on CNN this week, Jones refused to apologize.

"Things are going to be hard now, especially since I have no outside support. ... However, even though I will be starving over the holidays and my credit cards will all default, I still will not apologize," he wrote.

Big Mistake <> Prison

I agree, tossing these kids off campus is absurd. However, mocking VT murder victims is outrageous. How comfortable would these kids be dressing up as dead 9/11 firemen and visiting a NYC fire department? They'd learn a hard lesson real fast. These kids should sincerely apologize for being grossly insensitive, but destroying their life potentially for an immature mistake is an overreaction.
