Unlike Racial Outcry Last Time, Eight Swastikas at GW Probably Not Satire

November 01, 2007 03:17 PM ET | Alison Go | Permanent Link | Print

Police have stepped up their presence on the George Washington University campus after an eighth swastika was recently found scrawled on school property, the GW Hatchet reports. Similar uproar occurred on campus less than a month ago over faux-"Islamo-Facism Awareness Week" fliers, but the most recent incidents suggest less planning and no intention of "stirring up campus debate." Authorities have not yet labeled the incidents a hate crime but continue to investigate and pursue damage control. "We don't want to get the reputation of GW being a hate crime university."
