Aiming for the Olympics, Regardless of Age

you can see the effects of aging by looking at prosessional athletes - they typically maintain or increase their exercise regimin as they age. Despite that, you often see physical skills eroding in the early thirties.

While older people can still stay in terrific shape, their potential probably peaked before the age of 30...

Senior Olympics

The state of North Carolina sponsors a "senior olympics" event. I am a resident of a retirement home. A resident here, 93 years old, this year in the local events won a gold medal in bocce ball, a silver in billiards, a gold in bowling, and a silver in shuffleboard. He will go to Raleigh in September to compete for the state championships in bocce ball and bowling.

Fitness

You are old only if you let yourself be old. I run races, and at 62 can normally beat 97% of the competitors. I work out every day, do cross training beside running which includes weights and non jarring workouts. My weight has been essentially constant for the last 30 years. The exercise and discipline to try to eat healthy are the key. I don't feel my age, and in fact have so much energy that people think i'm 15 years younger.
