teachers are to blame

It's ridiculous to continue to blame teachers. They are underpaid, yet still willing to make a difference in the life of a child. Has the government or states taken a good look at themselves and asked themselves the question. "Do you think it could be the failure of the administration? How about this idea. When was the last time we went into the trenches with the teacher and encouraged them. You know what I keep seeing in these "failing schools"? Overworked teachers. They keep hearing, there's not enough money for us to hire more help. How about working together?

Is there such an animal. When was the last time any of the people who make these reform ideas asked the teachers about their opinions. A simple question or discussion is needed. "Would this idea work in your school?"

How about asking" What can we do to help you better implement these ideas?"

This is a good question. "Hey teachers, what are some of your ideas about how we can step along side you and help?" The administration's top job is to support the teacher that helps the child. the administration instead scolds the teacher, threatens their job, and tells the community. Your school failed because of Mr. or Ms. so and so.

I think teachers should get a standing ovation. I give the administration an F for failing the teacher. Shame on you.

Expecting responsibity across the board

I agree. For example I reside in a major city where this is occurring. We have at least six high schools that perform at the level of expectation. You ask where did those high performing students come from? Many of them come from our so called failing schools. Ohhhhh, so they have been prepared. So what is really going on here? Now as for the average and failing students they are not let into these schools. If teachers are the problem, then allow these students to attend the highest performing schools with super power teachers, and lets see if there is a change. I doubt it not without parent and student accountability. When are we going to encourage our students to take responsibility for their education? When students rush off to college, those who take responsibility excel. Those who don't go home. This formula is also required at the high school level.

Great topic. Now i can say thank you

hmmm I dont know about this

If we get rid of the teachers and principals at the low performing schools...we forget one main factor. The students will still be there with the same problems. Plus what are u gonnna offer teachers to go to these school. What guarantee are you going to give them?? Why should I leave my campus to go another school where most of the kids and parents dont give a damn?? Are u going to fire me if the test scores dont improve??

Instead of shutting them down, we need to firgure out how to fix the problem. Most charter schools were I live are low performing yet the state has not shut them down.

If you have to do it, you might as well do it right.
