I think Obama and Arne Duncan should focus on making our education more internationally focused. Our students need to know more about the cultures, history, and languages of countries around them. If possible considering the economic crisis, schools should begin foreign language earlier so students can leave high school bilingual and focus on leaving college trilingual. My school didn't have an IB program but I think adding more IB programs can help students prepare for college, gain better scores, and just be well rounded people. If more IB's are added school administrators must make sure that all students have an equal chance to participate. I personally think that adding full IB programs(primary years-IB Diploma program) in lower income schools without making it a magnet program can help. Parent's also need to be educated on what their children should know and learn as a 1st grader, seventh grader, and senior in high school. I believe educating parents' on material on standardized tests would help boost scores and really hold schools accountable if they realize their children are being taught 2nd grade material in 4th grade or anything similar. I am glad Obama is putting an emphasis on service also. I am planning on participating in the College Advising Corps and City Year after I graduate. I really believe students in all levels should learn the importance and satisfaction of serving their communities.

If you want to know how bad Spellings has been, look up articles on her. NCLB is Nazi style education. I had been a life long republican, until I actually started reading about NCLB and Spellings. Spellings has never taught in a classroom, never been an principal, and her own education is questionable. Look it up. The push to get school vouchers is what this is all about. Bush has tried to scare us with terrorist, then the bail-out (which now no one knows where all the money has gone), and now he is warning us about education. I say if he is throwing the stones lets get rid of NCLB before it does anymore damage.
