Morning Buzz: Feb. 12, 2008

Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia are holding primaries today, but Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton appear to be increasingly focused on March 4, when Ohio and Texas, among other states, will vote. Obama is expected to win in all three of today's contests.

The 31/₂-month-long television writers' strike is expected to end today. Members of the Writers Guild of America will meet in New York and Los Angeles to vote on new contracts, which they are likely to approve. The president of the guild called the agreement the "best deal this guild has bargained for in 30 years."

More bad news for the auto industry: General Motors posted a giant $38.7 billion loss in 2007, the largest in industry history, according to an earnings report released this morning. In an attempt to compensate, the company says it is offering buyouts to its 74,000 hourly workers.
