Morning Buzz: Jan. 16, 2008

After a jampacked night for presidential politics with the Democratic front-runners debating in Las Vegas  and Mitt Romney  clinching his first convincing win, grabbing the gold medal in Michigan,  the candidates are now setting their sights on Nevada, South Carolina, and Florida, the three states with primaries before Super Tuesday.

Economic bulletins continue to trickle in showing signs of a slowdown, as the inflation rate rose by the largest amount in 17 years and the Federal Reserve reported that output from the nation's factories, mines, and utilities did not increase in December.

Cuban leader Fidel Castro has not been seen in public since July 2006, and today in an essay published by a Cuban newspaper he said he was too weak to campaign for Sunday's parliamentary elections. His essay was also critical of President Bush.
