A do-over primary appears to be on the horizon for Michigan Democrats. According to reports, Michigan Democratic Party officials spoke yesterday with top staff for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and appear to be on the cusp of announcing a plan, pending the approval of the Democratic National Committee and other state officials, to hold an in-person primary by early June.
A bipartisan congressional effort to impose a yearlong moratorium on all legislative earmarks — so-called pork-barrel spending — has failed. The Senate voted 71 to 29 against the bill; all three major presidential candidates, however, voted to approve it.
Monks are rioting in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, in what observers say is the largest and most high-profile demonstration against Chinese rule since 1989. The demonstrators, who follow the teachings of the Dalai Lama, have apparently timed the riots to coincide with lead-up to the Olympic Games in Beijing, which begin in August.
