'McSame as Bush' Ads Attack GOP Nominee

March 05, 2008 02:47 PM ET | Permanent Link | Print

A day after John McCain captured enough delegates to secure the GOP nomination, television ads characterizing him as "McSame as Bush" were scheduled to begin airing in the swing state of Pennsylvania, according to an official with Campaign to Defend America, a liberal advocacy group.

The CDA official said the group will spend more than $1 million to run the ad, which features a well-known photo of McCain hugging President Bush, and a comparison of similarities between the Arizonan's record in the Senate and positions Bush has taken on the war, tax cuts, healthcare, and energy issues.

The spot, which will air in other states not yet publicly identified by CDA, is the first in a series of what the organization says will be a "blitzkrieg" of issue ads targeting McCain.
